Summer Sun
It’s the wonderful month of June! The month where warm breezes blow, everything is green, and everyone is itching to get outside and soak up all the much needed Vitamin D.
Here at The Lantern we can’t wait to get outside and enjoy the weather. With the sunshine comes the need to protect our skin from sunburns. As we begin to spend more time outside we ask that you provide your loved one with some sunscreen to protect their delicate skin.
As a person ages they become more sensitive to sunlight, meaning a person will experience sunburn in a shorter period of time than at previous times in their life. In addition, older adults are more likely to be taking medications that may increase their sensitivity to sun exposure including:
• Antibiotics
• Antidepressants
• Antihistamine
• Benzoyl peroxide
• Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories: ibuprofen, naproxen, etc.
• Diuretics
• Antihypertensives (blood pressure drugs)
• Benzocaine
• Cholesterol drugs
• Neuroleptic drugs
• Antifungals
This is not an exhaustive list of medications that can increase sensitivity to sunlight. If there is ever any doubt, consult your pharmacist and always wear sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses
We have a large outdoor space to enjoy. If you would like to take your loved one outside while visiting.
